To quote poet Louise Gluck, “…The body is the place, the only place, where we live — it is where we experience time; it is where we heal from emotional trauma, it is the seat of consciousness, without which there is nothing. And yet we spend our lives turning away from this elemental fact — with distraction, with addiction, with the trance of busyness — until suddenly something beyond our control — a diagnosis, a heartbreak, a pandemic — staggers us awake. We remember the body, this sole and solitary arena of being. The instant we remember to reverence it we also remember to mourn it, for we remember that this living miracle is a temporary miracle — a borrowed constellation of atoms bound to return to the stardust that made it.”
Inculcated into our DNA is over five thousand years of making war, more recently total invasion of human rights and loss of privacy through misuse of power from a hierarchy that believes in ‘power-over’; rather than a fully-fledged community that is ‘power-with.’ Every person on the planet is suffering from Collective Trauma.
We have been ‘hard-wired’ from birth into making war with our planet, with the elements of nature, with one another, ultimately within—with our self. Each human being on the planet carries wounding in the form of unexamined collective trauma that spans centuries of the human condition as well as, personal trauma.
As we are awakening, everything in our lives is up for re-calibration. This is a huge celebration! I feel deeply that we are up to the task.
How we choose to ‘stand for our rights’ must not be like going to war. We need to be in good relationship within, and then bring this out into our planet.
The healing journey connects us with what is good in the old paradigm, and then it is up to us to bring this across the bridge into the ‘vision we hold’ for our evolution. It starts with one person at a time being willing to do deeply insightful work. Change requires that we actually make changes. Each one of us has the capacity to step into life self-responsibly.
We are all collectively seeking healing ways of living together in a community, as self-responsible beings, with sustainability.
